C.Miton Wright to represent Harford County and their Community in the 2015 3A Maryland State Championship.

What an HONOR it is to introduce the 2015 C.Milton Wright Varsity Mustangs. The Mustangs are heading in as the C. Milton Wright High School and Harford County ambassadors to battle for the 3A Maryland State Softball Championship!

A couple quick facts.

Most of this team has been together for 3 years as a varsity team. These ladies have grown up together and most started out playing on the same rec teams when they were young. Most players can walk to each other’s houses. This truly is a back yard, family oriented team. We have ten seniors who will be playing their last game Friday night at University of Maryland. In its own right, this team is a dynasty. They go away during the summers and reunite to play as one team during the spring, the Mustangs. They will also be honoring programs such as Wagners, Severna Park Hornets, Maryland Legends, Churchville Lightening, Maryland Black Ice, Parkville Thunder, Hickory Hornets, Harford Extreme and the Forest Hill Heat. All bring a unique and strong skill set to the table.

We invite our community to help cheer on the Mustangs as they take on 7 time State Champion, the Northern Calvert Patriots. The Patriots won by a narrow margin 3-2 in the 2014 State semis in the last inning. This team has grown so much since that game, they have had one goal set in motion since that 2014 loss and that is to finish some #unfinishedbusiness. Good luck Mustangs. Take what is yours.

CMW Varsity over Havre De Grace 12-1

Softball 04/22/2015 - Havre de Grace @ C. Milton Wright
C. Milton Wright 12, Havre de Grace 1, 5 innings

H 000 01 - 1 4 2
C (10)01 1x - 12 12 0

Beer and DuBois; Fulton and Luzetsky, DeAgostino (4). 2b: H- Peters.

It was a cold rainy day at Mustang field, conditions that make it difficult at best, but it was the Mustangs that were less impacted by the conditions, scoring 10 runs on 5 hits and 6 walks plus two hit batters all in the first inning.  Two additional runs scored later in the game to secure the mercy-rule victory.

Mustang catcher Emily Luzetsky had a stellar day at the plate, going 4 for 4 at the plate with with 2 RBI, scoring three runs, and stealing a pair of bases during the opening at bat of the game.  Pitcher Morghan Fulton earns her 7th win of the season.  The Mustangs (11-2; 7-2) travel to Perryville Friday to make-up Monday’s rain-out.

CMW Mustang Varsity over Bo Manor 10-0 WIN 4-13-2015

C. Milton Wright 10, Bohemia Manor 0

Bo Manor was the home team, IF THEY SENT A REPORT, THAT REPORT IS OFFICIAL.

C 100 250 2 - 10 11 0
B 000 000 0 - 0 3 3

Fulton, Murphy (4) and Luzetsky; Jones, Abshagen (6) and M. Horsey.

The Mustangs take 1st in the battle for 1st place in the UCBAC Chesapeake division beating previously undefeated Bohemia Manor by a score of 10-0.  In this highly-anticipated matchup the Mustangs were able to take advantage of heads-up base running and timely hits, sending the would-be winning run home in the top of the 1st, but getting insurance runs complements of an Emily Kim RBI double in the 4th and tallying 6 hits plus a ‘reach-on-error’ in the 5th to plate 5 Mustangs. Emily Kim had a banner day at the plate for the Mustangs, going 3 for 3 with a double, scoring 3 runs, stealing a base, and driving in 2.

Manor pitcher Rachel Jones looked to corral the Mustangs early, allowing only an unearned run in the top of the first and holding CMW hitless the first time through the lineup while striking out 3.  The second and third time through however the Mustangs were able to adjust to the speedy lefty, launching 8 hits in the 4th and 5th innings before Manor changed pitchers.

A scary moment occurred for the Mustangs in the 3rd inning when Manor 3-batter Zoe Lockwood slammed a come-backer right up the middle that deflected off CMW pitcher Morghan Fulton’s glove and into left field with Melinda Morgan (who reached on a leadoff double to left field) on 2nd base.  It was only after Morgan was gunned down at the plate by left-fielder Katelyn Long that most of the fans and player realized that the ball had not deflected off or Fulton’s glove alone, it came back and hit her in the forehead!  Fortunately she did not show concussion symptoms, and looks to make a speedy return.

Mustang pitcher Katie Murphy entered the game in the 4th, shutting down the Eagles for the rest of the way allowing only one base-runner (a walk in the 6th inning) and striking out 6.  Murphy gets the win, her 3rd, and has yet to allow an earned run and has only allowed 4 hits in 16 innings within the circle for the Mustangs.

C. Milton next looks to seek revenge for its only loss Wednesday at North Harford.

Winning pitcher: Katie Murphy (4IP, 6K, 1bb, 0 hits)
Losing pitcher: Rachel Jones

4-8-2015 CMW Mustangs over Arch Bishop Spaulding 3-1

Softball 04/07/2015 - C. Milton Wright @ Archbishop Spalding
C. Milton Wright 3, Archbishop Spalding 1

SPALDING WAS THE HOME TEAM, IF THEY SENT A REPORT THAT REPORT IS OFFICIAL

C 200 000 1 - 3 7 0
A 000 000 1 - 1 8 0

Fulton and Luzetsky; Caulkins and Cosey.

With rain threatening the Mustangs got back into action the day after going 2-0 in the AA County Invitational Tournament by driving right back down to Anne Arundel County to take on IAAM power Archbishop Spalding.  What ensued was an errorless defensive duel with the Mustangs getting the up-side of the match thanks to a 2-run top of the first.

A one-out Catherine Kim single followed by a Caroline Weimer walk (one of only two walks Spalding pitcher Ali Caulkins would allow) put two Mustangs on the basepath.  A wild pitch and pop-out later Mustangs were standing on 2nd and 3rd with two outs when right-fielder Quinn Ursprung stepped to the plate.  Urpsrung rose to the occasion, lacing a 2-RBI single to right field and plating what ended up being the winning run.  The Mustangs continued to threaten with two follow-up hits, but the Spalding defense came up big throwing out a charging Ursprung on a very close play at the plate to end the Mustang scoring threat.  Following the 4-hit first inning Caulkins allowed only three additional hits the remainder of the game.

For their part the Archbishop Spalding offense responded by placing runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the bottom of the first inning (leadoff hit followed by a walk and a sac-bunt), but a well-played ground-out to Jenny Lynch at 3rd base off the bat of Caulkins held the runners, and the threat ended with the Spalding runner from 2nd getting hit by a batted ball.

The Mustangs would send only one runner past 1st base in the 2nd through 6th innings while the Cavaliers were held scoreless over the same frames despite a 3rd-inning bases-loaded threat, thanks in part to a heads-up 2-3-6 play when Spalding left-fielder Jordan Anderson drew the throw to first and then broke for second base.  Mustang first-baseman Caroline Weimer was waiting for it however and shot the ball to Emily Kim for the out.

In the top of the 7th Mustang batters knew insurance was necessary with the Cavaliers expecting their 9-1-2 batters at the plate down 2-0.  The Mustangs delivered - Jenny Lynch lead off the frame with a single, followed by a well-placed Danielle DeAgostino sac-bunt, and Mustang left-fielder Katelyn Long hit into a play to the right side sending Lynch to third.  It was then in the hands of catcher Emily Luzetsky who shot a single into right field, sending Lynch home for the very important insurance run.

Not to be deterred the Cavaliers’ bats awoke in the bottom of the inning with Jordan Anderson reaching on a single (she would end up 2 for 3 on the day) followed by a deeply-hit Jenna Pierson shot to the right-field fence.  The result was a pair of Cavailiers on the bases for Micala Anderson who hit into a play but sent home her sister for the only Spalding run of the game.  Mustang pitcher Morghan Fulton took over from there, forcing the remaining two Spalding batters into a pop-out and a ground-out to end the game.

All told the Mustangs were able to score 3 runs on 7 hits, the Cavaliers 1 run on 8 hits.  There were no extra-base hits in the game.  The Mustangs now take a short break before traveling to Seton Keough on Saturday and then returning the league play the following week.

Winning pitcher: Morghan Fulton - 1 run (1 earned) on 8 hits plus 3 walks, 1 K
Losing pitcher: Ali Caulkins - 3 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits plus 2 walks, 4K

Notables:

Jordan Anderson (AS): 2 for 3, scored the only AS run
Jenna Pierson (AS): 3 for 4
Quinn Ursprung (CMW): 1 for 3, 2RBI
Jenny Lynch (CMW): 2 for 3, 1 run

CMW pulls into second place behind North County

Softball 04/06/2015 AA Invitational Tournament - Howard @ C. Milton Wright
C. Milton Wright 11, Howard 3

H 100 002 0 - 3 4 1
C 201 143 x - 11 16 3

Bahrijczuk, Wieman (5) and Oliver; Fulton and Luzetsky. 2b: H- Batterton; C- Luzetsky. 3b: C- Murphy. HR: C- Weimer, C. Kim.

The nightcap for the Mustangs featured the most hits for CMW in a game yet this season against the Howard Lions.  All told 5 Mustangs had multi-hit games, and all but one Mustang batter had at least one hit enroute to 11 runs.  The Lions, who came into the game undefeated and highly-ranked, were in danger of giving up more as the Mustangs were unable to come up with clutch hits early, stranding 8 and leaving the bases loaded once.  Still, the hits did come, including the first two homers of the Mustang season (a solo Caroline Weimer shot in the 3rd plus a 3-run shot off the bat of Cat Kim in the 5th).  Mustang DH Katie Murphy added a 2 RBI triple in the 6th as well.

Howard got out of the gate quickly when Shannon Wiley reached on an error and was eventually driven home by a Berit Batterton RBI single.  But the Mustangs would answer immediately when the bases were loaded for pitcher Morghan Fulton who launched a sac-fly / RBI followed by a Jenny Lynch sac-fly / RBI to send C. Milton up 2-1.  Caroline Weimer’s solo homer in the 3rd and the first of 3 runs for left-fielder Katlyn Long in the 4th gave the Mustangs a 4-1 advantage going into the 5thinning.  The 5th was big for the Mustangs however when 4 runs would be scored after starting the inning with two quick outs. Three straight singles followed by Catherine Kim’s first homer of her high school career gave C. Milton Wright an 8-1 advantage.

Howard would try to make a game of it in the top of the 6th when Rachel Oliver reached with a 1-out single and Batterton launched a double leaving runners on 2nd and 3rd.  A Mustang error followed allowing both runners to score (Oliver was credited with the only Howard earned-run on the game, she would have scored without the error), but C. Milton would pull things together and hold Howard scoreless in the 7th to secure the win.

On the day Mustang bats belted out 21 runs on 26 hits while allowing 1 earned run.  Mustang pitchers Katie Murphy and Morghan Fulton combined for 11 strike outs while giving up 6 hits and 3 walks.

Winning Pitcher: Morghan Fulton
Losing Pitcher: Jamie Bajrijczuk

Notables:

Berit Batterton (Howard) 2 for 3, 1 run, 2b
Emily Luzetsky 3 for 5, 2 runs, SB, 2b
Catherine Kim 2 for 3, 2 runs, 3RBI homer
Caroline Weimer 3 for 4, 2 runs, solo homer
Katelyn Long 3 for 4, 3 runs, RBI, SB
Katie Murphy 2 for 2 plus a walk, sac-fly / RBI, 2 RBI total

BACHMAN tournament. Mustangs Vs Atholton WIN 10-0

Softball 04/06/2015 AA Invitational Tournament - Atholton @ C. Milton Wright

A 000 00 - 0 2 4
C 212 41 - 10 10 1

Drumheller and Peterson; Murphy and DeAgostino. 2b: C- DeAgostino (2), Murphy.

The opening game of the AA Initational Tournament was featured Mustang pitcher Katie Murphy who pitched her 2nd varsity game (and 2nd varsity win) earning a shut-out and striking out 7 along the way.  In two starts Murphy has yet to allow an earned run.  On the other side of the plate catcher Danielle DeAgostino got the start and showed up big, going 2 for 3 at the plate with two doubles.

Atholton was only able to pull off two singles in the game; their only scoring threat came in the 4th inning when a lead-off error (the first Mustang error in 4 games) followed by a hit (with a K in-between) and stolen base left the Radiers with runners on 2ndand 3rd and 1 out.  Mustang pitcher Katie Murphy took over from there however striking out the following two batters (an all-K 4th for Katie).

Winning pitcher: Katie Murphy
Losing pitcher: Patty Drumheller
