R 000 011 1 – 3 5 1
Fulton and Long; Keene and Sam. 2b: C- Weimer. 3b: R- O’Donnell.
It was a windy and difficult day for the Mustang defense, but C. Milton was able to score in 5 of the 7 innings of play to earn the victory at Rising Sun today. Down by two thanks to a Caroline Weimer RBI single and Catherine Kim's run on a passed ball; the Tigers looked to get right back into it in the bottom half of the first when leadoff batter Miranda O’Donnell knocked one to deep right for a triple. Two plays later however with one out the Tiger 3-batter looked to drop a blooper into left when Mustang outfielder Rachel Knoebel made a major-league sliding catch and then caught O’Donnell leading from third before she could tag for a double-play.
Rising Sun never quite recovered, giving up runs to the Mustangs in 4 of the remaining 6 innings, and only scoring single runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th.
Morghan Fulton earned the Mustang win in the circle, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Tiger pitcher Megan Keene took the loss giving up 7 runs (6 earned) on 10 hits plus 3 walks and 2 hit batters, also striking out 5.
C. Milton improves to 7-3 (5-3 UCBAC Chesapeake) ahead of Wednesday’s match against AA County’s Broadneck High School.

C.Milton Wright Win over Archbishop Spaulding 4-1
Softball 04/11/2014: Archbishop Spalding @ C. Milton Wright
C. Milton Wright 4, Archbishop Spalding 1
A 000 100 0 – 1 4 2
C 000 202 x – 4 5 1
Caulkins and Cosey; Fulton and Luzetsky. 2b: C- Weimer, Hamlin.
Coming off a difficult loss, the Mustangs needed to bounce back against the tough Cavalier team from Archbishop Spalding. That they did, taking advantage of a pair of Spalding errors to score 4 runs and secure the 4-1 victory. The game started out with an old-fashioned pitchers’ duel as neither team had a hit in the first three innings. But three Cavalier singles in the top of the 4th brought the Mustang top of the order up down by one run.
Caroline Weimer’s 2-out double started the come-back drive for the Mustangs. An error on the following at-bat allowed Weimer to score, evening out the ball game. Later Katelyn Hamlin would bounce back from an 1-2 count shooting a double to left driving in the 2nd Mustang run – as it is all that was needed to secure the win.
C. Milton added two insurance runs in the 6th when Quinn Ursprung’s single sent Kim home and Katelyn Hamlin hit into a play sending Weimer to the plate as well.
That would be all the scoring in the game. Morghan Fulton gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits and a walk while striking out 6 to earn the win; Spalding pitcher Ali Caulkins gave up 4 unearned runs on 5 hits plus a walk while striking out 3 in the loss.
The Mustangs host Harford Tech Saturday morning to finish out the home stand before heading to Rising Sun on Monday.

Winning Pitcher: Morghan Fulton (1 run, 0 earned, 2 strike-outs, 1 walk)
Losing Pitcher: Rayn Gibson (7 runs, 5 earned, 3 strike-outs, 2 walks)
The Mustangs needed a win after suffering a difficult defeat at home yesterday, and got one thanks to the pitching performance of Morghan Fulton who gave up only 5 hits (none for extra bases) and a walk with no earned runs to secure the victory. The Mustang bats were clinch, only belting out 6 hits but doing so with runners aboard. Up by a score of 1-0, the 4th inning was big for C. Milton as right-fielder Quinn Ursprung shot a 2-RBI double with bases loaded soon followed by Morghan Fulton’s 2-RBI single. Two insurance runs were added in the 7th when Jenny Lynch knocked a 2-RBI single with 2 outs, solidifying the win for C. Milton.
Not to be overlooked in the Mustang victory was a pair of double plays, both with a Bobcat on first base and a line-drive that took out the batter and the base-runner (one of them to 2nd baseman Katelyn Hamlin in the first inning and then to short stop Catherine “Cat” Kim in the last inning).
The Bobcat’s only run came when Bel Air’s 3rd-baseman Gaslor reached on a single. She was advanced to second by the next batter on a play back to the pitcher, but a Mustang attempt to catch Gaslor rounding 2nd sailed into the outfield on a throwing error, allow her to score.
The Mustangs end the week 4-2 on the season, 3-2 UCBAC Chesapeake.

C,Milton Wright Varsity Falls Hard against Havre de Grace 11-1
Softball 04/01/2014: Havre de Grace @ C. Milton Wright
Havre de Grace 11, C. Milton Wright 1
H 012 700 1 – 11 14 1
C 000 010 0 – 1 6 2
Thompson and E. Lewis; Fulton, Comeaux (4) and Luzetsky. 2b: H- E. Lewis; C- Comeaux. HR: H- Smith, Thompson.
Winning Pitcher: Megan Thompson
Ouch. That is about all that can be said from the Mustang’s perspective following the 11-1 loss today against the visiting Warriors. Havre de Grace was solid defensively but absolutely marvelous offensively, slapping out 14 hits including two shots out of the park in the third inning, compliments of 1st baseman Taylor Smith and pitcher Megan Thompson.
It was the 4th inning however that really drove home the Havre de Grace message – 7 runs on 6 hits (including an Emily Lewis double) plus two walks placed the Mustangs in danger of losing by mercy rule. C. Milton would avoid the slaughter when relief pitcher Kyralee Comeaux lead the 5th inning off with a double, later to be driven home by a Jenny Lynch single. It would be the only Mustang run of the day.
C. Milton falls to 2-2 in the UCBAC upper division and travels to Bel Air tomorrow to face the Bobcats.
