Coaches Games Reports CMW falls to North Harford 3-1---3-31-15

Softball 03/31/2015 North Harford @ C. Milton Wright
North Harford 3, C. Milton Wright 1

N 200 000 1 - 3 6 0
C 000 000 1 - 1 5 0

Lyttle, Hiser (4) and Harkins; Fulton and Luzetsky. 2b: N- Styles; C- Weimer, Ursprung. HR: N- Lyttle.

It’s hard to know what to say about a game like this.  North Harford, who has had a difficult start to the season, traveled to C. Milton Wright and played like seasoned pros.  Both teams played a defensively flawless game, but the Hawks were able to jump to an early lead in the top of the first inning with two outs when Ada Heinze reached on a single followed by a power-shot off the bat of pitcher Alexis Lyttle over the center-field fence.  They would turn out to be the only runs North Harford needed to win, but nonetheless the Hawks added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when then-pitcher Krista Hiser reached on a single later to be driven home by Kristen Stiles.

C. Milton had a chance to climb back in the bottom of the 7th when Quinn Urpsrung laced a double along the right field line. Katelyn Hamlin, in to run for Ursprung, would score when sent to the plate from 3rd compliments of an illegal pitch.

Hawks pitcher Alexis Lyttle picks up the win, pitching 4 innings, giving up 4 hits while striking out 2 batters.  Krista Hiser came in for the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings, giving up only 1 hit and 1 earned run while striking out 1 but hitting two batters plus walking another.

C. Milton pitcher Morghan Fulton gets the loss, giving up 3 runs (all earned), striking out one batter, and walking one.

The Mustangs next host cross-town rivals Bel Air tomorrow for a 3rd of 4 straight UCBAC Chesapeake games.

CMW Mustang Varsity over Havre De Grace 7-2 WIN - 3-30-2015

Softball 03/30/2015 - C. Milton Wright @ Havre de Grace

C 133 001 0 - 8 10 2
H 200 000 0 - 2 2 2

Murphy and Long; Jamison, Beer (4) and Beer, Brooks (4). 2b: C- Fulton, Lynch.

Notables:

CMW - 2b - Catherine Kim - 3 for 3 plus a walk, SB, RBI
CMW - P - Katie Murphy - Win, 7K, 0ER

Freshman hurler Katie Murphy got the start today for the Mustangs, earning her first win and shutting down the Warriors in Havre de Grace.  Murphy gave up only 2 hits, struck out 7 without giving up an earned run  in the 8-2 C. Milton Wright win.  The Mustang defense did its job behind Murphy, highlighted by a spectacular diving catch by right-fielder Rachel Knoebel.

At the plate the top two in the Mustang lineup were unstoppable with both Emily Luzetsky and Catherine Kim going 3 for 3 at the plate plus a walk, plus each had a stolen base to boot.  Luzetsky would score three of the Mustangs 8 runs plus drive in another; Kim wasn’t driven home but did notch an RBI.

The only extra-bases of the day for either team were off the Mustang bats of Morghan Fulton (seeing duty as the DH today) and 3rd baseman Jenny Lynch, both of which reached on an inning-opening double.

The Mustangs host North Harford for their 2nd of four straight UCBAC Chesapeake match-ups this week tomorrow.

Coaches Report 3-24-15 C.Milton wright Varsity Win over Fallston 15-4

Softball 03/24/15 C. Milton Wright @ Fallston

FALLSTON WAS THE HOME TEAM, IF THEY SENT A REPORT, THAT REPORT IS OFFICIAL.

C. Milton Wright 15, Fallston 4, 6inn.

C             320 055 - 15 17 2

F              102 010 - 4 5 4

Fulton and Luzetsky; Evans and Clay. 2b: C- Weimer (2), Urpsrung, E. Kim. HR: F- Walinski.

C. Milton opened up the season on the road on a cold day against cross-town rivals Fallston.  The Mustangs jumped up early when Emily Luzetsky reached on a single and stole her first of three bases on the day.  Luzetsky was sacrificed to third by Cat Kim and driven in on the first of Caroline Weimer’s two doubles.  Later in the inning Quinn Ursprung and Emily Kim would both send additional runs to the plate.  Cornell-bound Ivey Wagner was the sole Cougar to find her way home in the first frame, compliments of a stolen base, an overthrow that found her at 3rd, and a Maggie Deckelman RBI single.

The Mustangs scored two more in the 2nd, looking to run away with the game.  But Fallston had other ideas in the third when Ivey Wagner once again found her way on, this time with a single, followed by an Elise Callahan home-run shot to right field.  Ivey’s sister Anna would add a run in the 5th inning, reaching on a single and stealing her way all the way to 3rd.  Wagner scored on the next play, but that would be the end of Fallston’s scoring.

The Mustangs on the other hand plated five runs each in the 5th and 6th innings, enough to shorten the game to 6 innings as the mercy-rule came into play.  In the process Caroline Weimer had her 2nd double of the day, Quinn Ursprung added one of her own, and not to be out-done Freshman shortstop Emily Kim knocked her own RBI double as well.

The Mustangs (1-0) head to Rising Sun tomorrow to take on UCBAC division rivals Rising Sun.

C. Milton wright Softball Continued countdown till 2015 Season

With a predicted 6 inches of snow heading into the Baltimore Metro area, The countdown till first pitch is still underway. The snow not only stands to cancel the first pitch, but The Mustangs are hosting a Family dinner at Texas Roadhouse this evening from 4-10. This Dinner is actually a make up from when snow derailed the dinner earlier in the season. Spring will eventually win out, but the frustration combined with the excitement to see the mustangs on the field is almost overwhelming.
