What a difference a day makes. After dropping an uninspiring game yesterday, the Mustangs rebounded big against cross-town rivals Bel Air in a highly-anticipated showdown between the pitching prowess of Bobcat Rayne Gibson and Mustang Morghan Fulton.
The Mustangs jumped up in the bottom of the 1st when leadoff batters Emily Luzetsky and Catherine Kim both reached with singles, advancing to 2nd and 3rd on a passed ball. Caroline Weimer sent Luzetsky home hitting into a play, and cleanup batter Morghan Fulton sent Kim to the plate, scoring the 2nd and what ended up being the winning Mustang run.
Bel Air looked to jump back in the 2nd however when Rayne Gibson, who was intentionally walked, found her way to 3rd and made it home when Thielhorn hit into a play, scoring the only Bobcat run.
Mustang bats took over from there. Back to back doubles off the bats of Cat Kim and Weimer added a run in the third. More runs were scored in the 4th with RBI blasts off the bats of Luzetsky, 2 for Cat Kim, and another off the bat of Jenny Lynch. Freshman shortstop Emily Kim would get into the action in the 5th inning leading off with a double, finding her way to 3rd, and making it to the plate when fellow freshman Katie Murphy hit into a play.
Mustang pitcher Morghan Fulton had a banner game. Only 2 of the Bobcat’s 4 hits made it to the outfield, and only one putout was in the outfield, meaning in the entire game Bobcat batters only sent 3 balls out of the Mustang infield. Fulton gets the win, her 2nd of the season while striking out 2 and walking 2 (one intentionally).
Bobcat pitcher Rayne Gibson takes her first loss of the season, giving up 12 hits plus also walking only 2 batters while striking out 5 Mustangs.
The Mustangs now hold a 2-1 record in the UCBAC Chesapeake division (3-1 overall) with a conference match tomorrow at home against Perryville.
