The Mustangs opened the 2014 season at home against the Fallston Cougars today, winning behind the dominating pitching performance of Morghan Fulton. Fulton gave up only 1 hit and struck out 3 to earn the victory. The one hit however resulted in an out anyway when the batter tried for 2nd base, only to be thrown out by Mustang right-fielder Quinn Ursprung. Fallston sent only three batters to the plate in each inning.
At the plate C. Milton leadoff batter Emily Luzetsky when 3 for 4 plus reached on the only error of the game, scored two runs, and stole two bases. Likewise 1st baseman Caroline Weimer went 2 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Cleanup batter Jenny Lynch also had a multi-hit game, going 2 for 2, scoring a run, and getting hit by a pitch (Jenny is now the all-time leader in the Mustang ‘hit-by-pitch’ category). Quinn Urpsrung also opened her varsity career going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. The only extra base hit of the game however was off the bat of Mustang 2nd baseman Kaitlin Hamlin who knocked an RBI triple in the 5th inning.
The Mustangs travel to North Harford on Monday to open up UCBAC division play against the Hawks.
